Concept Artwork

One thing that I love making when I have an idea in mind for a character, creature, or a place is some concept art!

I used to just draw these images out in pencil in a very basic sketch format, but as I've grown into my style as an artist I've realized how much vitality that color can bring to a piece, so now I illustrate with watercolors to create a more complete image.

Creating these concept artworks is super fun because I can be fully creative and express whatever comes to my mind without the toil of outlining, planning, and making sure that everything is neatly in its place. If you are familiar with my paintings or even some of my ink drawings, then you will be aware of how I pay attention to framing and adding small details. Concept art lets me focus on the primary subject of my interest without the distractions or stress of everything else I might want to put in a future painting.

Most of my art pieces have stories behind them or sometimes even poetry I've written that they are inspired by. These plain background watercolor pieces offer me a visual way to express my written ideas while also enhancing the literary pieces I'm working on while I continue to develop these thoughts.

I hope you enjoyed seeing a few examples of my concept artworks. If you would like to see more like this, please follow my Instagram account @duskbatsdrakes

I post my finished artwork, concept art, and crochet creations more regularly on that account.

Thank you for your continued support.
