Park Sonnet

I love poetry.
I love reading it and writing it, though I have much less experience making my own poems.
Today I decided to practice a poetic exercise in which I wrote a sonnet inspired by my recent adventures in the wooded park near my home. I hope you will enjoy it!

I stroll down to the forest in the rain,
The leaves have changed and they drift through the air,
When I walk into my wooded domain,
I feel as if nothing can harm me there.
A tree stump guards the entrance to the park,
A ring of mushrooms decorate its neck,
A leopard slug climbs up its textured bark,
It goes unseen unless you think to check.
I breathe in the damp scent of the rich earth,
Sitting upon a mossy fallen log,
Do others appreciate the great worth,
Of the creatures that come out in the fog?
Come sit upon this mossy log with me,
I hope you will also see the beauty!
